By a vote of 4 to 1, Punta Gorda City County voted to start the process to repeal the land development regulations that were put in place by the previous city council. The 4 council members ran on a platform that they would repeal the LDRs if elected so right or wrong they are honoring their campaign platform.
I know that this is a very contentious issue to a lot of people in Punta Gorda.
My understanding is that to repeal the LDRs, there must be two public hearings, the first to be June 4th. Here is everyone’s opportunity to have your voice heard whether you are for or against repealing the LDRs. This is your city. Stand up and be counted.
The council meets at the Laishley park community center. I would guess it will probably be moved to a larger facility if enough people show interest in attending.
Everyone is entitled to express their opinion, politely, in three minutes or less, so craft your words carefully.

Let’s keep this on our radar. Notice of public hearing June 4th . Does anyone have a clear understanding of the LDR’s ? I feel we need presence here and some who have the ability to speak and have an understanding of what is up for change .
I read that too and need to understand what the repeal means good or bad. I have someone i will ask…she’s smart on PG land issues

- Concerns about Current LDRs:
Residents and some council members have expressed concerns that the current LDRs, particularly those related to density and building heights, are not compatible with the city’s character and may negatively impact the existing small-town feel of Punta Gorda.
The council is exploring the possibility of reverting to the LDRs that were in place prior to the recent changes, specifically those in effect in 2022
Revision back to established heights and density for downtown area
Does anyone find it odd that the June 4th meeting or cancellation of it can’t be found on the city website? @maryanntipton didn’t I see an email where you found it cancelled?
No , I don’t believe it’s cancelled it’s on for 9:00 this morning at Burnt Store Presbyterian church .
Important for all those that can attend to be present .
